Okra, a relative of the cotton and hibiscus, is native to Africa but it is believed that it was brought to the Americas as food for slaves. Okra is a vegetable and can be eaten uncooked.

Jamaican men believe okra has an aphrodisiac effect. Therefore, it is blended with other ingredients to make a supposedly aphrodisiac drink. For example, okra blended with raw oats and Guinness then sweeten with condense milk and spice-up with grated nutmeg.
