Steamed Callaloo Recipe-Jamaica

Ingredients


1 bundle Callaloo
1 small onion (sliced)
1 medium size tomato (sliced)
1 peg garlic (sliced)
1 small hot pepper (with seeds removed)
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. black pepper
1 small sweet pepper
2 tablespoon oil


Method

Place callaloo in a large bowl fill with water. Add two teaspoon salt to water, stir with hand. Add callaloo to salted water, let it remain in it for at least twenty minutes. Discard the water wash callaloo again in fresh clean water. Remove callaloo leaves from the stems or stalks. Cut leaves finely then add salt, black pepper, hot pepper, garlic, sweet pepper, onion and tomato to callaloo.

Heat sauce pan, add oil to hot. Add callaloo to pot, cover and allow to shimmer over low flames. Stir until callaloo leaves becomes soft. Add ketchup to it for added flavour(optional)

Serve with your choice of food even bread. You can also add salt fish (cod fish) with the callaloo. Boiled egg and fry plantains can also add to this for a delicious breakfast treat.
NB: It is very important to wash callaloo with salt water to get rid of worms or worms eggs. Please wash all vegetables in salt water before eating it or cooking it.
