Watermelon slush is excellent on a hot day or just about anytime. Refreshing, satisfying and low in calories, watermelon can makes the difference on a hot day. Watermelons are plentiful at this time of year and because of their high water content, watermelons are excellent thirst busters. Watermelon slush is ideal for both adults and children. 4 cups watermelon, seeds  removed
The juice of 1 lime or 2tbsp. lemon juice
1/3 cup of granulated sugar or icing sugar

Blend the white sugar into a blender until it becomes powdered

Icing sugar is too sweet; therefore I use granulated sugar. I blend the white sugar into a blender until becomes powdered.

Use the seedless melon if you like genetically modified foods, I will stick with "normal" watermelon. I purchase fresh fruits from the fruit vendors at the market.  Sliced fresh fruit is becoming increasingly popular in supermarkets in Jamaica.However, the sulphur that is often used to preserve the fruit and make it look appetizing can cause headaches, nausea and asthma. Researchers are seeking alternatives or so they “claimed”.


In a blender or food processor, add the sugar, watermelon flesh, and the lime juice. Mix until smooth. Pour mixture into an airtight container.

Freeze for 2 hours or so

Remove from freezer, use a fork to mash the frozen mixture into shavings. Serve.
