How to bake potatoes
Baked potatoes are delicious and super easy to bake. However, the baking time depends on the sizes of the potatoes. This method for baking sweet potatoes also goes for Irish potatoes. See more hints and helpful tips here.

Unbaked sweet potatoes
A medium-size potato will bake in 40-45 minutes at 400F. Bake potatoes at 375 F for 1 hr. Bake potato at 450 F for 30-35 minutes. How to steam potatoes, click here.
Method
- Gently wash sweet potatoes with vegetable brush. Pat dry sweet potatoes with a piece of paper towel.
- Pierce the skin of each potato in several places with the tines of a fork before baking. This allows steam to escape, preventing the potatoes from bursting.
- Put potatoes in a roasting pan, or a cookie sheet, you can put them directly on oven rack as well.
- Put into a preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes at 400F
- Potatoes are done when a fork inserted goes right through easily.
Tips for baking or cooking Irish and sweet potatoes
If soft skins are desired, rub each potato with a little vegetable oil before baking.
Baking potatoes into a piece of foil paper give softer skin and help retain heat, but I feels it steams rather than bakes the potatoes.
If potatoes are peel before cooking, use a vegetable parer, keeping peelings as thin as possible, since some of the potato’s nutrients are found close to the skin.
Peeled potatoes turn dark if not cooked immediately. To protect their whiteness, toss them with a little lime or lemon juice.
Prolong soaking potatoes in cold water is not recommended as it can result in some vitamin loss.
Leaving skin on potatoes during cooking is an excellent way to conserve their nutrients.
Potatoes retain nutrients better if cooked whole. However, they can be halved, sliced or diced before cooking if shorter cooking time is desired.
