Jackfruit is the largest fruit in the world and can weigh up to 80lbs! Jackfruit is not native to Jamaica but grows plentiful here in the island. Jackfruit resembles breadfruit and smells awful. However, the pods on the inside are very sweet.
A Jackfruit
The yellow flesh is sweet and tart, like a cross between a mango and peach and high in fibre. Jackfruit is high in vitamin C for virus and bacteria protection, white blood cell support, rich in phytonutrients, lignans, isoflavones and saponins which have anti-cancer and anti-aging properties. Anti-ulcer properties, helps constipation, cleaning colon. Used for healthy eyes,(macular degeneration, night blindness), skin, energy, heart support, blood pressure, asthma, bones, osteoporosis, anaemia, thyroid, hormone production. Used as meat replacement (main course) by many. The seeds are also edible.
