Piri Piri Sauce Recipe

piri piri sauce

This is my homemade piri piri sauce made with paprika, vegetable oil, red Scotch bonnet peppers, red sweet pepper (red bell pepper) garlic, black pepper, lime juice, salt  and vinegar.

Piri piri is a hot sauce, of Portuguese colonial origin, made from red chilli peppers. Chilli peppers are not available in Jamaica at this time. Therefore, I substitute it with Scotch bonnet peppers. I dislike the taste of Olive oil. Thus, I used pure vegetable oil.

Ingredients

1 large red sweet pepper, seeded. (Also called red bell pepper or red capsicum)

4 cloves garlic

2 red Scotch bonnet pepper, (use chillies if available in your country)

1 tbsp. white vinegar

1/2 tsp. black pepper

2 tbsp. paprika

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 cup pure vegetable oil (You can use Extra Virgin Olive Oil)

1 tsp. lime or lemon juice

Method

Combine all ingredients into a blender and blend for two minutes

Pour piri piri sauce into a glass bottle, cover and keep in the refrigerator for up to four weeks
