Jamaican sorrel steeping instructions


Sorrel steeping instructions. In my opinion, the majority of people nowadays boil the sorrel for at least ten minutes, which is a no-no. Sorrel tastes like bath water after being boiled. I used more sorrel than water because I want a rich, not watered-down, sorrel drink. How to ferment sorrel.

2 lbs. sorrel
1 1/2 cups water
2 ounces ginger/peeled and mashed
Other ingredients that can be added are pimento seeds (allspice) and a few white rice grains, though they are not traditionally used. See video how to steep sorrel 

Sorrel petals should be completely washed and set aside. Pour water into a pot, add the ginger, bring to a boil, then turn off the heat. To the water, add sorrel petals. Cover and steep overnight
