Police Officer Shot During ABM Robbery in St. Catherine
- A police officer was shot in the groin during an attempted robbery at an Automated Banking Machine in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, earlier today.
- Inspector Donovan Cassells and a colleague were withdrawing cash when they were shot at by two armed robbers.
- The robbers got more than they bargained for when the police officers returned fire, wounding Inspector Cassells and one of the robbers.
- The injured inspector has been hospitalized in serious condition.
- The second gunman was captured later in the day, and an illegal gun was seized.
- Despite the shooting, the St. Catherine North Police have been successful in dealing with criminal activity in Spanish Town this year.
- Senior Superintendent Howard Chambers credited this success to good cooperation from law-abiding citizens and the business community.
- Chambers urged everyone to continue with the level of partnership and communication that has been established.
