Baked chicken is a classic and simple dish that's perfect for any occasion. Here's a recipe for baking one whole chicken

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole chicken (3-4 pounds)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 lemon, cut in half
  • 1 onion, quartered

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.

  2. Rinse the chicken inside and out under cold running water and pat it dry with paper towels.

  3. In a small bowl, mix together the butter, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, and dried rosemary. Rub the mixture all over the chicken, including under the skin.

  4. Stuff the cavity of the chicken with the orange halves and onion quarters.

  5. Place the chicken on a rack in a roasting pan or baking dish. Tuck the wings under the body of the chicken and tie the legs together with kitchen twine.

  6. Bake the chicken for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, depending on its size, or until the internal temperature of the thickest part of the chicken reaches 165°F when measured with a meat thermometer.

  7. Let the chicken rest for 10-15 minutes before carving and serving.
