Tree-Cutting Accident Claims Life of Portland Man
A Portland man lost his life on Wednesday after a tree he was cutting for lumber fell on him. The incident happened around 3 p.m. in the Comfort Castle area of Millbank, Portland.
The Portland police confirmed the death and identified the victim as a resident of the parish. Superintendent Lloyd Darby, the head of the Portland police, expressed his condolences and urged people who engage in tree-cutting to be more careful and learn the best practices.
“This is not the first time that we have seen accidents and fatalities from tree-cutting. You have to exercise all the care and really, if you don’t have the expertise to know how to cut the tree, where it will fall, how to use your ropes and chains to guide it, you should not do it. This is a very unfortunate loss of a productive member of our parish,” he said.
