Jamaican soursop leaf tea recipe
February 16, 2024
Sour leaf tea is nothing new to Jamaicans who grew up in Jamaica in the 90s and before the 90s as well. Soursop tea, lime leaf tea, mint tea, and fever grass tea. These teas we grew up drinking. At that time, no one was talking about soursop leaf tea health benefits. Drinking soursop leaves tea is a cultural thing in Jamaica, not for health benefits, at least not back then
Ingredients:
- 5-7 fresh or dried soursop leaves (washed)
- 4 cups of water
- Optional: sweetener of your choice (sugar, honey, etc.)
Instructions:
- Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan.
- Once the water is boiling, add the washed soursop leaves to the saucepan.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the leaves simmer in the water for about 10-15 minutes. This will allow the flavor and nutrients from the leaves to infuse into the water.
- After simmering, remove the saucepan from the heat and let the tea cool down for a few minutes.
- Strain the tea to remove the soursop leaves, and discard the leaves.
- If desired, add sweetener to taste.
- Pour the soursop leaf tea into cups and serve hot.
