Jamaican East Indian Mango

Jamaican East indian mangoes

The Jamaican East Indian mango is one of the most prized mango varieties in Jamaica. Known for its rich, sweet, and fiber-rich flesh, it has a distinctive elongated shape with a slightly curved tip. The skin turns a bright yellow when ripe, often with a reddish blush.

This mango is highly aromatic and has a deep, bold flavor, making it a favorite for eating fresh. However, it has more fibers than other varieties like the Julie mango, which some people don’t prefer. The East Indian mango is often considered a premium fruit in Jamaica and is commonly enjoyed during mango season, typically from April to July.

It's believed to have been introduced to Jamaica by Indian indentured laborers in the 19th century, which might explain its name. The fruit is often associated with special occasions and is sometimes more expensive due to its high demand.
