Jamaican Peppermint Tea Recipe

Peppermint tea is one of Jamaica’s most trusted herbal drinks. Brewed from the peppermint bush, it carries a sharp menthol flavor that clears the head, soothes the stomach, and refreshes the body. (Read about Jamaican peppermint bush here.) Watch video recipe here


Ingredients

  • 1 small piece of fresh mint stick with leaves

  • 1 cup boiling water

  • Sweetener of your choice (optional)


Instructions

  1. Break off a small piece of the fresh mint stick with leaves.

  2. Wash it thoroughly.

  3. Put the mint into a cup.

  4. Pour one cup of boiling water over the mint.

  5. Cover and steep for 5 minutes.

  6. To maintain the heat, pour boiling water into another container and place the cup with the mint tea inside it.

  7. After the 5 minutes, strain off the tea into another container.

  8. Sweeten with your favourite sweetener.

  9. Drink hot.

Mint tea is normally eaten with Excelsior water crackers (tough crackers).
