When is the Best Time to Visit Jamaica for the Sun?
If you’re planning a trip to Jamaica, you’re likely chasing the sun. But the "best" time to visit actually depends on your personal heat tolerance. As someone living in Jamaica, I can tell you that what we call "hot" and what a visitor from a colder climate calls "hot" are two very different things
Here is a breakdown of what to expect from the Jamaican sun throughout the year:
The Moderate Sun (February)
Right now in February, the sun is shining, but it isn't "hot" by local standards
Overcast Skies: On most days, the sky stays overcast after 12:00 midday
Evening Rain: You can expect evening rain on many days during this month
The Transition (March & April)
As we move into the spring, the intensity of the sun begins to climb.
March: The sun gets noticeably hotter, and the weather is normally dry and windy
. April: The heat remains similar to March, but we start seeing what we call "April rain", typical evening showers that cool things down.
The "Real" Heat (July & August)
If you are looking for that intense, tropical heat where you really feel the burn, July and August are the best months to visit
Peak Intensity: This is the time for "really hot sun.
| Month | Sun Intensity | Weather Notes |
| February | Mild/Moderate | Overcast afternoons; frequent evening rain |
| March | Hotter | Dry and windy |
| April | Hotter | Windy with occasional "April rain" showers |
| July & August | Extremely Hot | Peak summer heat; high intensity |
