Easy Vanilla Sponge Cake (Basic Recipe)

Ingredients
5 eggs
3/4 cup (180 ml) sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
3 tbsp butter, melted
1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter and flour a round cake pan or a 9-inch springform pan. Set aside.
Place a stainless-steel bowl over a saucepan filled with gently simmering water.
Add eggs and sugar to the bowl and beat for about 5 minutes, or until the mixture thickens.
Remove from heat and continue beating until the mixture cools slightly. Set aside.
In a separate bowl, sift together flour and baking powder.
Gently fold the dry ingredients into the egg mixture using a spatula or whisk.
Gently fold in melted butter and vanilla extract.
Pour batter into prepared pan.
Bake for 25–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Remove from oven. Run a knife around the edges to loosen the cake.
